It’s extremely common for people to have to travel to another city to receive medical care. However, many fail to realize that several hotels in cities all over Canada offer what are referred to as medical or compassionate rates. This means that if you’re travelling to Vancouver for a medical appointment, an emergency, or to self-isolate due to COVID-19, you may be eligible to receive a discounted room rate. Keep reading to learn more about medical and compassionate rates.
What are Medical and Compassionate Rates?
People travel for a variety of reasons. Although the most popular reasons are for tourism and business, sometimes people must travel for a medical-related reason. For example, they require a surgical procedure or an appointment with a specialist that they can’t get in their hometown. The result is that they must travel to a different city and are in need of a place to stay. This is where medical and compassionate hotel rates come in. Many hotels offer discounted rates to people travelling for medical or compassionate reasons. These include medical appointments, the death of a loved one, a medical emergency, or the need to self-isolate due to COVID-19.
How to Find a Vancouver Hotel Offering Medical/Compassionate Rates?
Many hotels all over Canada offer medical and compassionate rates. The trick is that you have to know where to look. Thankfully, the Government of British Columbia makes it easy. They have a Medical Travel Accommodation Listing tool on their website where users can select the city they have to travel to and a list of hotels offering discounted rates will appear. You can even add the dates on which you’re travelling in order to narrow down your search. From there, all you need to do is call the hotel or book a room online. Be prepared to provide proof of whatever medical or emergency situation has led you to book a room at this special rate.
If you need to travel to Vancouver for a medical appointment, emergency, or to self-isolate, then we recommend booking a room at the Georgian Court Hotel. We offer a special health care rate of $89.00 CAD per night, and a discounted 14-day quarantine rate of $99.00 CAD per night.
